Dahlias will grow well in any soil, but thrive in a rich soil with good drainage. They like to be well-watered, but not water-logged. Dahlias vary in height, so are great for many locations in the garden, including beds, borders and containers. They also make great cut flowers, but cut the flower only when completely developed. After flowering, either lift tubers and store frost-free in dry compost until it is time to plant again, or, in milder areas, leave in the ground and cover with a mulch over winter.
