Description
Fonterutoli is located near Siena on hills facing the Val d’Elsa, in the heart of Chianti Classico. Owned by the Mazzei family since 1435, Castello Fonterutoli promotes local varieties which express the identity of their land, while respecting nature and its diversity. The vineyards spread over 110 hectares divided on 144 single parcels with altitudes ranging from 220m to 570m. The estate is densely planted and produces very limited yields. Grapes are top quality making full-bodied wines with structure, balance and freshness.
Sourced from the same 114 parcels used to produce Fonterutoli’s top range Gran Selezione, Chianti Classico is the flagship estate. Made with 90% Sangiovese, 5% Malvasia Nera and 5% Colorino and aged for 12 months in small French oak barrels and has an ageing potential of 10 years. Aromas of violet, dark and red berry fruit and hints of chocolate. Medium-bodied and elegant with a solid core of fruit and firm tannins. Will pair well with dark sauce pastas, BBQ, boiled meats with spicy sauces, aged cold cuts.
