Agapanthus will tolerate most well-drained soils. They prefer a sheltered position, and thrive in full sun. In the first year after planting, water regularly during the summer. Once established, they will need little watering, but watering at the end of particularly dry summers will encourage good flowering the following year. Agapanthus in the ground will benefit from a thick mulch to protect from the cold over winter.  Plants in containers should be moved to a light, frost-free location.
